Looking out of my window

by Penny BroJacquie

I love this view when looking out of my window!

These are fig leaves. A fig tree (figus carica; syco in Greek language) is a deciduous tree; that means it loses all of  its leaves this very part of the year.

Do you know the word “sycophant” comes from the Greek word sykophantes, meaning” one who shows the fig”?

Santorini underwater

by Penny BroJacquie
Santorini is a Greek island located in the southern Aegean Sea and it is the remnant of a volcanic caldera.

Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic explosion, known as the Minoan eruption: one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history which is estimated to have occurred in the mid second millennium BCE. Not only the nearby Minoan settlement at Akrotiri was devasted but it is believed that it had a catastrophic impact to the Minoan population on Crete.

Some scientists also believe that the eruption caused significant climatic changes in the Northern Hemisphere and there is evidence indicating that from China to California.

it has been speculated that Santorini inspired Plato’s story of Atlantis, the legendary island which sank into the ocean “in a single day and night of misfortune”.

The most recent eruption recorded in 1950. Since then the volcano has been quiescent.

Scuba diving in waters like that wouldn’t be more challenging. Vassilis Kouloumperis and some friends of him took this challenge, they went underwater and the slideshow above is the result of their adventure.

Athens sea coast

by Penny BroJacquie

Athens, and Attica in general, are places of different aspects. The heart of Athens beats in the historic center where you can admire some of the most important archaeological monuments of the world, like Acropolis, while a few kilometers away you can relax by the sea.

Road trip to Western Greece

by Penny BroJacquie

Greek islands are without a doubt the no 1 attraction as a tourist destination in Greece.

Despite mainland is not so popular, it is characterised by diversity, rare scenery and piteresque villages.

My friend Stelios Bamiatzis took a road trip to Western Greece and he kindly accepted to share some pics with us that prove that travelling in mainland is really worthy.

A rainy day in Athens

by Penny BroJacquie

I love rainy days

And Athens is lovely when it rains

The scenery is colourful with all those umbrellas

And it’s the prefect time for romantic walks at the Acropolis area

Even if  a road bicycle race is taking place
